Webinar: Retaliation against whistleblowers and the EU Whistleblower Protection Directive

December 15, 2020

Retaliation against whistleblowers will become illegal under the EU Whistleblower Protection Directive, which comes into force in less than one year. Organisations failing to comply will face penalties and the burden of proof that retaliation has not taken place rests on the organisation, not the reporter.

This is a  new area for many, and is understandably something we are beginning to receive questions about from our customers. What does retaliation mean? How can we identify it? How can we reduce the fear of retaliation to encourage whistleblowers to report their concerns? Can a compliant whistleblowing system help?

If you are also unsure about how your organisation needs to prepare to combat retaliation against whistleblowers, then this webinar might be valuable for you. It includes some background to the new EU Whistleblower Protection Directive, practical cases and pragmatic tips on building a speak-up culture.

The webinar was held as part of Compliance Week Europe 2020, and features WhistleB’s co-founder Karin Henriksson, alongside:

  • Eva Fröberg, Director Group Industrial Relations, Total Reward and Health & Safety, Lantmännen
  • Mary Shirley, Global Head of Culture of Integrity and Compliance Education, Fresenius Medical Care
  • Carrie Penman – Speakers, Chief Compliance Officer, NAVEX Global

Description of the webinar on retaliation against whistleblowers from Compliance Week Europe:

A robust internal reporting procedure is a key component of every effective compliance programme. But without employee trust and meaningful anti-retaliation measures in place, workplace whistleblowing programmes cannot perform to their full potential. In this session panellists will explore the upcoming EU Whistleblower Protection Directive, its role in addressing retaliation, and what programme “best practice” might look like for European organisations.

Duration: 57 minutes
